Croton Reservoir Tavern has been on West 40th Street since 2003, one block from Bryant Park and a few minutes from the theaters. Upstairs is a fifty foot oak bar, leather banquettes, and a dining room that fills at lunch and stays full through dinner. Downstairs is The Speakeasy, where the lights come down after dark and a DJ plays on select nights.
Come for brunch on a Saturday, a long lunch, a drink after work, dinner before a show, or the last round at two in the morning. We have seen all of it.
The name is older than the restaurant. A four acre lake once sat behind fifty foot granite walls on Fifth Avenue between 40th and 42nd Streets, holding the city's drinking water from 1842 until 1899. New Yorkers climbed up and walked the promenade around the top of it. The library and Bryant Park stand there now. We are two blocks west on the same street, with a hand painted mural of the reservoir covering 150 square feet of the dining room wall.

Wings, flatbreads, and a mega pretzel to share. Burgers, brisket, and a hanger steak with house frites. Behind the bar, Croton Pilsner on draft alongside Weller, Blanton's, Pappy Van Winkle, and a Macallan run that goes to eighteen years.
Weekend Brunch, Saturday and Sunday
11:00 am to 3:30 pm, one block from Bryant Park. Bottomless with any food order. Pull up a seat at the fifty-foot bar or take a banquette and stay a while.
Happy Hour, Tuesday to Friday
4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in The Speakeasy. Margaritas, Old Fashioneds, Manhattans and Cosmos from $10. House wine $10, well drinks $10, $2 off every draft. Wings, sliders and flatbreads if you are staying.
